Grant awarded to Santa Cruz afterschool music program

Receiving a $12,000 grant is music to the ears of a free afterschool music program in Santa Cruz.

The Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County announced Tuesday that it had awarded the grant to El Sistema Santa Cruz, which provides music instruction to over 280 students at Gault Elementary School and Branciforte Middle School.

The grant is part of $5 million in total grants the CF has made to local nonprofits through a competitive application process.

A portion of the grant was provided through a partnership with the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
