Missing biker found dead; family remembers their beloved son

On Tuesday, after spending the day riding with friends in the Hollister Hills, 23-year-old Doug Williamsdidn’t comehome.

Search teams were called out and after hours of searching, Williams was found dead down an embankment early Wednesday.

“He was my boy and kind of like really my best friend,” said Ron Wallace, Williams’ step-father.

Wallace first met Williams when he was in preschool and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Riding dirt bikes was a hobby they shared together.

“I raised him. Everybody says he walks like me, he talks like me,” said Wallace.

For the last four years the two have been living together in Gilroy. When Wallace heard Williams was missing, he jumped into action and joined the search party. He was with one of the teams that found Williams.

“I always told him if there was anything wrong I would find him no matter what, and I did. And I stayed with him until the coroner removed him from the spot,” said Wallace.

But Wallace feels more could have been done to find him sooner.

“He was stiff and cold. My poor baby was out there all night. They wouldn’t let me drive out there to find him,” said Wallace.

The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office and park rangers said they did all they could to help find Williams.

“We had about 50 people (in the search parties). The Monterey County sheriff’s office, Santa Cruz county sheriff’s office, Santa Clara county sheriff’s office and our office were all here along with state parks and volunteers from Hollister Hills,” said Capt. Eric Taylor with the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office.

Now that the search is over, Wallace said all he can do is help preserve his step-son’s memory.

“His friends are just dying right now. He was like everybody’s rock,” said Wallace.

Investigators said it still unclear what caused the crash.

A GoFundMe page has been started to help raise money for Williams funeral services. For more information, click here www.gofundme.com/p9bbqo.
