Bold burglars hit Scotts Valley; residents go on alert
Thieves kicked down doors and burglarized two homes in Scotts Valley over the weekend, and residents in the usually quiet city are now on alert.
“You think about your kids being home and it’s very bold for somebody to do something like that,” resident Robert Aldana said.
Aldana, who runs the My Scotts Valley neighborhood watch page on Facebook, started the network in 2013 after a string of car burglaries.
“There’s a sense of feeling violated. You feel insecure, you feel like you’re not safe in your own environment,” Aldana said.
Aldana lives down the street from where the first home was hitoff Bordeaux Lane at around 8 p.m. Saturday.Several hours later, burglars hit at a home onCoopers Hawk Court.
Police said no one was injured and no arrests have been made.
“The officers noticed that the footprint from the first burglary matched that of the second. So it’s a continuing investigation at this point,” Sgt. David Ball of the Scotts Valley Police Department said.
In the meantime, residents like Aldana are keeping a close eye on the neighborhood.
“We live in (a town with) one of the lowest crime rates in the entire county, but it still doesn’t mean that there’s not going to be any crime. Because no matter where you go there is absolutely no place on earth that is crime free,” Aldana said.
