Man dies after Del Monte Beach shooting

UPDATE 3/16/15: On Monday, Montery police said the victim in a deadly shooting early Saturday morning has been identified as Abraham Lizama, 37, of Soledad.

PREVIOUS STORY: A man is dead after he was shot on Del Monte Beach in Monterey Saturday morning, police said.

At 2:07 a.m. police officers responded to a report of a shooting on Del Monte Beach near the intersection of Beach Way and Tide Avenue, police said. Officers found a man who had been shot, police said.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, police said. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said the shooting suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
