UPDATE: Santa Cruz alleged peeping Tom arrested, admits to peeping
Santa Cruz police said a peeping Tom suspect showed up at the police department Thursday afternoon, where he was later arrested.
Officers said Felton resident Timothy William Maness, 28, initially went to the department to defend why he was captured on surveillance video.
During a lengthy interview, officers said Maness admitted to peeping and several other charges.
Officers said Maness has a history of peeping into women’s windows only at Roundtree Community Apartments in Santa Cruz. They believe there may be more victims than initially reported. Investigators said they are looking through computer evidence showing he liked to take pictures of women.
Maness was booked in Santa Cruz County Jail on multiple charges including peeping, burglary, stalking.
PREVIOUS STORY: Santa Cruz Police said Tuesday night a woman noticed a man looking at her through a window at her home.
Police say it happened just after 9:00p.m. when the 19-year-old said the woman then saw the suspect try to get in to her house.
The victim was home alone at the time and noticed the alleged “peeping Tom” outside of her window which was inside a secured patio area.
Police learned the suspect had removed some wooden boards from the fence that secures the private patio area in order to get in.
Officers say the man was at the window, opened the window, and reached through the window to enter the residence. When the woman began to scream and point a flashlight toward the suspect, he then moved to a sliding glass window and attempted to enter the house that way but couldn’t get in.
The 19-year-old ran out of the house on to the back patio and confronted the suspect and was able to take some pictures of the suspect before he took off.
The suspect description is below:
White male adult, 30-40 years old, 6’1″ tall, medium build, dark brown hair and a dark brown goatee. He was seen wearing a dark brown baseball cap, a blue and black flannel jacket, with a white t-shirt underneath. It appears the suspect removed the baseball cap and flannel jacket prior to entering the secured patio.
The Santa Cruz Police Department is looking in to other similar cases in the area of Palo Verde Terrace, Peach Terrace, and Castillion Terrace that have happened in the last 4-6 months. In those cases none of the victims have actually seen the suspect. The victims have only seen the suspect’s feet or the top of his head, and have not seen his face.
The Santa Cruz Police Department is distributing fliers in the neighborhood alerting the neighbors of the activity and asking for their help to identify the suspect, and also looking to identify other possible victims in the area.
