UPDATE: Harbor High student arrested for cell phone bomb threat
Santa Cruz police said a 14-year-old student has been arrested after he allegedly called in a false bomb threat to Harbor High School Thursday afternoon.
Officers said a witness saw the student make the call on campus and discard the phone.
Police said the student was arrested and taken to juvenile hall. He is charged with possession of a stolen phone.
PREVIOUS STORY: Santa Cruz Police said students who were evacuated earlier Thursday afternoon are now being sent home for the remainder of the day, but a bomb threat to the school turned out to be a false alarm.
The the reported bomb threat came in to police dispatch just before 12:00p.m. and police responded to the campus as students were evacuated to the lower baseball and football fields.
Police were able to determine that the phone where the call came in was stolen from a student’s backpack earlier in the morning from a locker room.
Police pinged the cell phone and believe that it is still on campus and are working to locate it. The campus has been cleared of any threats, according to police.
School should resume Friday, but students were released to their parents before 2:00p.m. Thursday afternoon for the remainder of the day.
