Five arrested in Seaside drug bust and child endangerment case
On Wednesday, Seaside police said two wanted suspects were arrested during a traffic stop after a stolen assault rifle was discovered in a home last month.
Officers said on Feb. 11, investigators searched a home where several people had been squatting. They identified Jared Ewing, 34, as the person who had possession of the stolen assault rifle and ammunition. Ewing is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
During Wednesday’s traffic stop, officers said Ewing was seen in car driven by another wanted suspect, Brandon Calantoc, 31. Both Ewing and Calantoc were arrested along with a third person, Micaela Wimbush, 30.
Officers said Wimbush was in the back camper shell of the truck with heroin. During the arrest, officers said she informed police her one-year-old child was at the Fireplace Motel in Monterey with a known person known to police with a history of drug use.
Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Task Force investigators and Monterey County Probation officers said they checked on the child and arrested Julia Ryan, 22, and Cameron Ferguson, 25, inside the motel room for heroin possession.
Child Protective Services took custody of the child and Wimbush is charged with child endangerment.
