New Little League ballpark opens in Greenfield
Discovering a whole new meaning to home field advantage, Sunday the Greenfield Little League ballpark was rejuvenated.
After the old ball park became a hot spot for thieves, parents and players say this year it’s time to start over.
Saturday and Sunday were Opening Day weekend as the Greenfield Little League officially moved to Patriot Park.
In 2014, the old field off Walnut had been vandalized multiple times and more than 4,000 dollars stolen.
The upgrades to the new location include field lights, a new tee-ball field, and scoreboards.
Little League parents say they couldn’t be more thankful to have this for the kids.
“It’s a new era and we hope that we get a lot of support we need a lot of help, volunteers. And we hope to see everybody out there in support of our community and our children,” said Jessica Bautista.
Little League officials say there’s been an 20% increase in sign-ups this season compared to last year.
The league president says that is a clear indication the excitement about baseball for these kids is back in Greenfield.
