Carmel students back from Seattle after competing for $750,000 prize
UPDATE 3/9/15: Students from Team pHine pulled their sensors out of the tanks they were sitting in for a month collecting data in Seattle, Saturday.
The Carmel High students are competing against nearly 20 teams of adults and industry professionals, team leaders say it is rare to have a young team in a science-based XPrize competition.
The students’ sensor was going through a 30-day coastal trial. Judges will begin looking through all the sensors data and are checking for things like stability, ease of use, affordability, and accuracy.
The students should learn how they did some time this week.
3/6/15: A group of Carmel High School students are in Seattle this weekend as part of a project that could snag them a 750-thousand dollar prize.
The team is competing in the Wendy Schmit Ocean Health X-prize competition. Their task is to find a sensor that can reliably check levels of ocean acidity, to help scientists get a better idea of our ocean’s health.
Right now they’re collecting data they hope will help them win the prize.
