Suspect leads MoCo deputies on a chase in Castroville, police say

Monterey County deputies said a suspect led them on a chase through Castroville early Thursday morning.

Deputies said they tried to stop suspect Juan Orozco, 24, after he made an illegal U-turn near Espinosa Road at Highway 183 and sped off in the opposite direction.

Orozco ended up crashing into a guard rail near Highway 156 and Merritt Street and ran on foot, according to deputies

Deputies later caught up with Orozco who was allegedly hiding in a nearby back yard.

During their investigation, deputies said Orozco also threatened to kill a female passenger who asked him to surrender. She was released at the scene.

Orozco was arrested for evading police, resisting arrest, kidnapping, criminal threats and for multiple arrest warrants out of Santa Cruz County.
