Central Coast teens drinking too many sugary drinks, counties say

On Friday Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties’ health departments released information finding too many kids are drinking too many sugary drinks.

All three counties were recently surveyed on the types of drinks, water consumption, types of beverages at home and what it could mean for obesity.

The counties also said obesity is a public health crisis in California. Research gathered by the departments found 57 percent of adults and teens in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties are overweight or obese and 70 percent are in San Benito County.
