Lovers Point gets state grant for water quality improvement efforts

State grant money is being given to fund a project aimed at improving water quality at Lovers Point beach at Pacific Grove.

The State Water Resources Control Board is providing a $3,289,276 grant to the city of Pacific Grove to make needed improvements to the storm drain and sanitary sewer pipelines near the coast. Those are believed to be a source of human bacteria contamination at the beach.

The entire project is estimated to cost more than $4,775,000. The remainder of the project money will come from the city of Pacific Grove.

Lovers Point is a priority beach for the Water Board’s Clean Beaches Initiative Grant program due to its periodic poor water quality. The Clean Beaches Initiative program has funded over 100 projects along the coast.
