Sheriff Scott Miller’s Son Taken Into Custody, Again

Sources tell Central Coast News that Jacob Miller, the son of Monterey County Sheriff Scott Miller, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon.

Officers searched Jacob Miller’s home, which is on the same property as the sheriff’s home, and seized stolen property, sources told Central Coast News.

According to the California State Park’s Department, there have been a series of break-ins at the Asilomar Event and Conference Center, which is on state parks property. Officials said about 10 smartphones and tablets were stolen.

Investigators with the State Parks Department said they developed leads that Jacob Miller was the suspect in this case. Probation officers were able to search Jacob Miller’s home, where they said they found the stolen electronics.

Sheriff Miller said he was not home at the time of the search and had no prior knowledge that this was going to happen. Sheriff Miller told Central Coast News reporter Ricardo Navarro that he was at his office in Salinas when his son was taken into custody around 11 a.m.

Jacob Miller was taken to the Monterey County Jail, but will be transferred to a different county for his safety. Sheriff Miller said that this is standard practice.

This is not the first time that Jacob Miller has been in trouble with the law. He was arrested in 2011 on drug charges.
