Gov. Gavin Newsom congratulates Calif. Sen. Kamala Harris on projected election win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KION) California Gov. Gavin Newsom congratulated Sen. Kamala Harris on social media following news that former Vice President Joe Biden is projected to win the presidency. Harris is his running mate.

Newsom wrote in a post, "This was truly the victory America needed, to be the America we know we can be. From America's largest state: Congratulations to the next President and Vice-President of these United States, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris... Together, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will turn hurt into healing and deep-seated divisions into common ground, repair our standing around the world and rally our nation together in this time of unprecedented crisis."

Newsom will soon be facing the task of replacing Harris' seat in the U.S. Senate.
