MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) The Monterey Regional airport is one of four California airports to receive Airport Improvement Program Grants.

The grants from the Department of Transportation amount to $35.6 million total, and the Monterey Regional Airport will receive $10 million of that to build an apron, an area where planes park, load and unload passengers and cargo and refuel.

Other airports that will receive grants are the Norman Y. Moneta San Jose International Airport, Mojave Air and Space Port and Long Beach Airport/Daugherty Field.

Since January 2017, the Department of Transportation said the Trump Administration has invested $10.8 billion in more than 2,000 airports nationwide for safety and infrastructure improvements.
