KING CITY, Calif. (KION) To make sure everyone can have a safe and fun Halloween, King City announced two socially-distanced events.

The first event is a Halloween Decorating Contest. The city said people can decorate their businesses or homes and register to win prizes. The decorations will then be judged on Oct. 21 on creativity, originality, design and layout. Winners will get a call the week of Oct. 26.

Registration is free and can be done by calling the recreation office at 831-385-6748 or register online here.

On the day of Halloween, the city's Recreation Department will host its 3rd Annual Drive-thru Trunk or Treat event. Participants will be asked to line up in their cars in the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds parking lot before gates open at 4 p.m.

The event is for children between the ages of 2 and 12, and participants will need to stay in their cars during the entire event. Those who want to decorate a trunk can register for free. All trunks must be pre-registered and only store bought treats can be handed out. Contactless delivery using gloves, grabbers or other items is encouraged whenever possible. There are expected to be about 500 children.

To register to decorate a trunk, call the recreation department at 831-385-6748 or register online here.
