UPDATE 11/30.2020 1:15 p.m. During an update Monday afternoon, Gov. Gavin Newsom shared concerns about increasing COVID-19 hospitalizations and ICU admissions, and that could mean another stay at home order.

“If these trends continue, California will need to take drastic action, including a potential stay-at-home order for regions with concerning hospitalizations and ICU capacity,” the Governor said.

Over the last two weeks, COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide have increased by 89%, and ICU admissions have increased by 67% over the same period of time.

Newsom said the stay at home order would be a modification of what we experienced this past spring, but he did not provide details about what those modifications might be.

Due to Thanksgiving activities and gatherings, the state anticipates there will be a large increase in cases during the next 1 to 2 weeks. Based on findings from health officials, Newsom said about 12% of daily cases lead to hospitalizations two weeks after they are reported. He also said current projections show that hospitalizations could increase by two to three times the current amount in one month.
