Calif. Health and Human Services Secretary provides update on state tier system, COVID-19 pandemic

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KION) The California Health and Human Services Secretary, Dr. Mark Ghaly, is providing an update on the state's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his Tuesday briefings, he usually provides updates on counties moving through the tier system of the state's Blueprint for a Safer Economy. There are currently 45 counties in the most restrictive purple tier, and they are also subject to a limited stay at home order.

As of Nov. 22, there were more than 1.1 million confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to the California Department of Public Health. 18,726 people have died.
