Inmate at Salinas Valley State Prison dies of COVID-19 complications

SOLEDAD, Calif. (KION) The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirms that an inmate at Salinas Valley State Prison has died of complications related to COVID-19.

The inmate died Aug. 29 at an outside hospital. No other information about was provided, but it is the first inmate COVID-19-related death at the prison.

There are currently 37 active COVID-19 cases among prisoners at SVSP. In total, 90 employees have tested positive for COVID-19, and 40 have returned to work.
