SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) The Family Service Agency of the Central Coast is asking community members to send cards and other items to remember seniors in isolation in care facilities by sending cards and other items.

Nancy Cleveland, the I-You Venture Assistant Program Director, said they are specifically looking for handmade cards, letters, iPads to FaceTime family and for entertainment, iPods and activity items such as crosswords, word searches or art supplies.

"When a person goes to live in a care facility they face a profound set of challenges including physical, emotional and social isolation. With the COVID-19 pandemic, residents face an additional set of challenges.  Most residents aren’t allowed to leave their rooms or facilities... Seniors are especially isolated and lonely during the pandemic and need to know someone from the community cares," Cleveland wrote in a statement.

To donate, you are asked to contact Nancy Cleveland at 831-459-8917, ext. 205 or cleveland.n@fsa-cc.org. Cards can be mailed to FSA/I-You Venture, 104 Walnut Ave., Santa Cruz, CA 95060. They can also be dropped off at the Live Oak volunteer center at 1740 17th Ave., Santa Cruz.
