SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION)

UPDATE 7/27/2020 5 p.m. Santa Cruz County announced that new closures will go into effect at 12:01 a.m. tomorrow.

Several business sectors will have to close indoor operations because the county has been on the State's monitoring list for 3 days.

The county is ordered to close indoor operations at:

  • Gyms and fitness centers
  • Personal care services
  • Places of worship and cultural ceremonies
  • Offices for non-critical infrastructure
  • Indoor shopping malls
  • Hair salons and barbershops

Affected businesses are still allowed to operate outdoors.

PREVIOUS STORY: Today is the third day that Santa Cruz County has been on the State's monitoring list, and that could mean more closures soon.

A spokesperson for the County tells KION that they are expecting a message from the State to shut down indoor operations in several business sectors, and if they receive the message, the closures would go into effect at 12:01 a.m.

The county would have to close indoor operations in these business sectors:

  • Gyms and fitness centers
  • Places of worship
  • Indoor protests
  • Offices for non-critical infrastructure
  • Personal care services
  • Hair salons and barbershops
  • Malls

Santa Cruz County was added to the monitoring list because its case rate per 100,000 people over 14 days is at 121.5. That number is supposed to be below 100.

Monterey and San Benito Counties have already been on the monitoring list for more than 3 days and have experienced closures.
