MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) The City of Monterey announced that the Monterey Sports Center has closed until further notice.

The closure comes after Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that several business sectors are required to close their indoor operations in counties on the State's watch list.

Monterey County is on the watch list, and fitness centers are one of the business sectors ordered to close indoor operations.

The city said memberships have been frozen and will be extended.

The facility reopened last month and required that face coverings be worn by members and guests at all times, including while exercising.
