Gov. Gavin Newsom provides update on State’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic Thursday

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KION) Gov. Gavin Newsom is providing an update on the State's response to the COVID-19 pandemic Thursday.

On Wednesday, Newsom reported a record high number of cases reported at more than 7,000. On Thursday, he reported about 5,300. He said that number is down, but still concerning.

A record 101,000 people were tested for COVID-19 around the state. There has been a 32% increase in hospitalizations over the past 14 days, and there has been a 19% increase in patients in ICUs in the last 14 day.

Newsom said there has been a 5.6% positivity rate statewide over the past 7 days..

Newsom has continued to remind Californians to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
