SALINAS, Calif. (KION) CVS has expanded its COVID-19 testing capabilities in California by opening 35 new drive-thru testing sites, and one of them is in Salinas.

The pharmacy located at 347 E. Alisal Street. It will be opening for testing Friday.

The company said the 35 new sites are an addition to 107 testing sites in California that have already opened, and it said 81% of the sites are in counties with underserved communities.

"One of our greatest strengths as a company is our local presence in communities across the country, which enables us to uniquely expand people's access to safe and effective COVID-19 testing options and respond to a need for increased testing capacity," said Larry J. Merlo, the President and CEO of CVS Health. "We continue to be grateful for the commitment of our frontline colleagues who make these testing sites possible and whose dedication has allowed us to keep our stores open for customers seeking supplies and patients who need care."

The tests are offered at no cost to patients, and the company said they should receive results in two to four days. They will have to legally live in the state where the test is given and at least 18 years old.

To get a test, patients will need to meet CDC criteria and make an appointment online in advance here.
