SAND CITY, Calif. (KION) Sand City announced that it will be cancelling this year's West End Celebration due to COVID-19 concerns.

The event was scheduled for Aug. 21-23.

Organizers said they needed to make final arrangements, but did not know when the State or County would move into Stage 4 of reopening and allow the celebration to take place.

They also said a recent surge in cases, they expect the decision to move into Stage 4 could be months away.

"We had waited as long as reasonably possible with the hopes that the circumstances would improve to a point that events like ours would be allowed to move forward. However, ultimately we collectively made this decision in order to protect the safety of our vendors, volunteers, artists, musicians and all of our attendees," organizers said in a statement.

Organizers said they are looking forward to holding their best celebration ever next year.
