FELTON, Calif. (KION) A new social media trend has popped up around the country-- people are going outside to howl at 8 p.m., and the Felton Fire Protection District joined in Thursday night.

In the video below, the fire district showed how it participated.

The fire district said joining in gave them an idea for another way to interact with the community.

Starting Tuesday, the fire district said it will pick a different Felton neighborhood each week to visit for an engine tour.

During the tour, fire crews will say hi to residents during the 8 p.m. howl. They said it is similar to Santa on the engine.

The fire district hopes the tour will boost morale, spread joy and demonstrate proper social distancing.

The first neighborhood will be announced Tuesday afternoon.
