On Tuesday night, Governor of California Gavin Newsom made a major announcement on the Rachel Maddow Show regarding the protection of medical professionals by supplying them with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Newsom says within the last 48 hours, the State of California has negotiated a contract with a California-based manufacturer and an association of nonprofits.

The manufacturer was not named, but Newsom says they have ties to Asia. The masks, including the N95, will be made overseas at a reasonable price.

Newsom says the State of California has already distributed 41 million masks, while the federal government has provided the State of California with a million masks. After competing with other states for masks, Newsom said the State of California had the purchasing power to provide itself with masks and potentially even export them to other states in the next few weeks.
