SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) A welfare check in Santa Cruz County turned into an opportunity for deputies to help an elderly community member.

Deputies with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office were called to do a welfare check for an elderly man after neighbors said he had not taken his usual walk to the grocery store in a few weeks.

Deputies got in contact with the man, but found out that he needed some items from the store. They did not want the man to put himself in danger by going to the store, so they put together a shopping list, got the items and dropped them off for the man.
