(KION) Save Mart Companies announce that all Save Mart, Food Maxx and Lucky stores will begin offering dedicated times for first responders to shop in California and northern Nevada.

The hours started Thursday, and the company said it is setting aside the time to help and thank those people for their service.

Save Mart Companies defines first responders as law enforcement, fire and medical personnel.

The company said the hours will be one hour before and after posted store hours every day. First responders will need to provide proof of credentials.

The Senior Vice President of Retail operations said he got the idea to offer the special shopping hours after talking to first responders who said they need extra shopping opportunities because of changes to their work schedules.

The stores also offer special shopping hours for seniors and other vulnerable populations. Those are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
