(KION) UC President Janet Napolitano has issued an executive order requiring that all students, faculty and staff get a flu shot.

They will will need to get the vaccine by Nov. 1.

Napolitano said the requirement is part of an effort to prevent a flu outbreak and reduce burdens on the healthcare system during the COVID-19 pandemic, but some say it is not necessary because classes are being held online.

There will be a process put in place to allow faculty and staff to request medical exemptions. All UC medical plans for faculty, staff and students will cover the shots at no cost.
