MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) The Monterey County Health Department released guidance for pools as they begin to reopen.

Pools were included in the State's fitness facility guidance, and the facilities were allowed reopen statewide on June 12 with county approval. Saunas, steam rooms and hot tubs need to remain closed.

The health department shared guidance from the CDC to stay healthy in pools, and its five safety tips are to stay home if you do not feel well, stay 6 feet away from people, wear a face covering when not in the water, wash hands often and cover coughs and sneezes.

State guidance says facilities with swimming pools or splash pads need to take extra steps to make sure they are cleaned and disinfected. It recommends that proper disinfectant levels and pH are maintained.
