All but 11 counties approved to move further into Stage 2 of reopenings

(KION) Many California counties are moving into the extension of Stage 2 of reopenings, but 11 counties are still not allowed to open dine-in restaurants and malls. Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties are two of those not moving into the extension yet.

The counties that are not moving further into Stage 2 are: Monterey, Santa Cruz, Marin, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Alameda, Santa Clara, Tulare, Los Angeles and Imperial.

Those counties can allow curbside retail, manufacturers, logistics, childcare, office-based businesses, outdoor museums, car washes, pet grooming and landscape gardening to reopen.

San Benito County is one of the counties that has filed an attestation and has moved into the extension of Stage 2.

In the Stage 2 extension, counties can allow shopping malls, dine-in restaurants and schools to reopen with modifications, but counties can have more restrictive orders than the state.

Monterey County officials say they believe they meet the criteria to move into the Stage 2 extension and are putting together the needed evidence for the state to review.

The county shared what it has left to do Monday. Monterey County still needs more people trained to conduct contact tracing and a more than 14 day supply of protective equipment for skilled nursing facilities, but it said it has plans to meet the requirements.

Santa Cruz County officials said last week they believed they are about four weeks away from moving into the Stage 2 extension. The county said they are working to gather data and expand testing and contact tracing.
