Salinas declares local emergency, closes non-essential businesses

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) The Salinas City Council has declared a local emergency to limit the exposure to coronavirus. The city has also closed non-essential businesses and limited counter hours for essential businesses.

City Hall, fire stations, libraries, recreation, Public Works and Environmental Maintenance and the Salinas Municipal Airport are closed until a Shelter in Place order for Monterey County ends.

All non-essential meetings for government agencies have also been canceled, as well as gatherings of more than 50 people.

Police services and permit center will be open, but counter availability will be limited and only providing essential services.

The city said it will continue to monitor the coronavirus situation and provide updates.
