SALINAS, Calif. (KION) Northridge Mall has decided to shut its doors due to concerns about the spread of coronavirus.

On Tuesday, Monterey County issued a Shelter in Place order, so residents are asked to only leave their homes for essential services and activities.

The mall is expected to be closed through April 8, but some restaurants may still be open for periods of time to provide food.

"Our teams have and will continue to work together and closely monitor the situation, adhere to national guidelines and partner with local health officials to make decisions that are in the best interest of our communities," the mall said in a statement announcing the closure.
