Mets concerned over Carlos Correa’s physical, same concerns that nixed Giants deal

ESPN.COM

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Update Dec. 24, 2022, at 11:33 a.m.- After a nightmare scenario unfolded with the San Francisco Giants and superstar shortstop Carlos Correa, it seems the same medical concerns have the Mets questioning the World Series champion's health.

MLB insider Ken Rosenthal reported Saturday that the Mets have concerns over Correa's physical. Stemming from surgery for a right lower leg injury, he suffered in 2014.

It was bad enough that Giants backed out of a 13-year $320 million deal, and now has the Mets questioning their 12-year $315 million deal. No word has surfaced if the Mets will rescind their offer.

ORIGINAL STORY

Multiple sources from FOX Sports, ESPN, and the MLB Network are reporting Carlos Correa's deal with the San Francisco Giants fell through, and now the shortstop has signed with the New York Mets.

An official signing was never held for Correa, who had complications with his physical, which reportedly led to the deal falling through.

Correa's deal with the Mets is worth $315 million and runs for 12 years.

The two-time All-Star is coming off a season with the Minnesota Twins, where he batted .291, with 152 hits and 22 home runs.

It would have been the Giant's biggest free agent pick-up this offseason that otherwise has been relatively quiet.

They were able to agree to a deal with Joc Pederson and Mike Yastrzemski. Newcomers for the upcoming season include lefty pitcher Sean Manaea, right-hander Ross Stripling and outfielder Mitch Haniger.
