Police arrest one of three suspects in Watsonville jewelry store burglary
Watsonville police have arrested one of three people suspected of breaking into and burglarizing Fatima’s Fine Jewelry early Thursday morning.
Police said they arrested 29-year-old Jorge Garcia less than 24 hours after the incident. Officers said they identified him from burglary surveillance footage and saw him in a CVS Pharmacy parking lot just after 9 p.m. They said he was in the same clothes he wore during the burglary.
Garcia was arrested, and officers said during an interview he admitted to entering the store with another man and taking jewelry. He was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail for commercial burglary. He is also facing charges for a commercial burglary at a restaurant on the 600 block of Main Street in August.
Police said they believe they have identified a second burglar and are looking for that person.
Officers said before Garcia and his partner went into Fatima’s Fine Jewelry, the store was burglarized by an unidentified man who was wearing heavy clothing, gloves and a mask. They said that person threw a large rock through a glass door to get in and used rocks to smash display cases.
About five minutes after that person left, Garcia and his partner went in the broken back door.
Police said they currently do not have any leads on the masked burglar. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Tyler Wildey at 831-768-3356.
