Del Rey Oaks police use electric ATV to patrol Fort Ord property
Police in Del Rey Oaks released video on Thursday showing how a new side-by-side electric ATV is helping officers patrol Fort Ord property.
Police said almost half of the area within city limits is undeveloped Fort Ord property, so officers patrol the area for crime, environmental hazards and fire risk.
Nearly two years ago, the York Fire started in that property, and since the fire, police said they have dealt with transient encampments. The department said it has spent thousands of dollars on clean-up costs to remove trash, hazardous materials, human waste, drug paraphernalia, hypodermic needles, combustible fuels, stolen property and weapons.
Officers said they have arrested suspects for burglary, warrants and other offenses on the property as well.
