Hollister man arrested on suspicion of vandalizing and burglarizing middle school
Hollister police said a local transient was arrested for vandalizing and burglarizing Maze Middle School.
At around 7:30 a.m. Monday, a school resource officer was called to the school for a report of felony vandalism and burglary.
The officer investigated and found several areas of the school had been damaged. Those areas included the chain link fence, doors and the roll up doors to the cafeteria. The officer said the damage appeared to be signs of forced entry or an attempted forced entry.
The officer then said he found that money and food items had been taken. He looked at surveillance footage and identified the suspect as a local transient, Steven Cardenas.
On Tuesday, Cardenas was found and arrested in the 300 block of South Street. He was booked into the San Benito County Jail.
