Cal Fire schedules prescribed burn in Gabilan range
If you see smoke rising from the hills east of Salinas, it will likely come from a prescribed burn.
Cal Fire plans to conduct a two-day prescribed burn, Oct. 23-24, on private property in the Gabilan hills east of Salinas in San Benito County.
Crews will burn brush and other potential fire fuels from nearly 2,400 acres of land.
Cal Fire says the operation will also help train firefighters in fire suppression techniques in a controlled environment.
Smoke will be visible in Hollister, Santa Clara Valley, Salinas Valley and San Benito County.
Cal Fire said it will be working closely with the National Weather Service and Monterey Bay Air Resources District to ensure the burn is conducted safely in appropriate weather conditions. The project may be postponed if conditions are unfavorable for a safe burn.
