CHP cracks down on drivers for “National School Bus Safety Week”
The California Highway Patrol says many drivers are not driving safely around school buses.
Officers will be out all week watching drivers to make sure they follow the rules.
It’s for National School Bus Safety Week.
KION went along with officers Monday as they looked for those breaking the law.
“The most common violation we do see is when people are crossing from the other side [of the road], ” Sgt. Grant Boles said, “Unless the road is divided by a median or a barrier, the opposite lane of travel has to come to a complete stop.”
If you don’t follow that rule of the road or any of the others, the fines can be steep.
“Some people could see a fine of $600 to $700 depending on the county you live in, Boles said, “That kind of just gives you an idea as to how serious this violation is.”
The CHP says on top of enforcing school bus safety, they’ll also be cracking down on school zone violations throughout the week.
