CHP video shows helicopter’s one skid landing during rescue

A CHP helicopter pilot is getting some well-deserved attention for his flying skills, after landing his aircraft on one skid during a rescue at Big Sur.

The CHP Coastal Division shared video of the October 14 rescue on its Facebook page.

The video shows the pilot landing and holding the aircraft steady with just a small portion of the left skid touching a rock at McWay Cove. A paramedic then climbed out and assisted the victim back to the aircraft. He was flown to a nearby turnout on Highway 1.

The CHP says the victim, who appears to be a man in his 20s, had been swept off a rock and into the ocean. He was able to swim to the outcropping, where he waited for rescue.
