Watsonville businesses cashes in on Donald Trump Pinatas
The countdown to the second presidential debate has begun. It’s set for September 16 at the Ronald Reagan Library in Southern California. Donald Trump continues to lead in the polls and here on the Central Coast a Watsonville business is getting a boost, thanks to,”The Donald.”
Jesus Marquez is the co-owner of Marquez Bros Pinatas in Watsonville. He said three foot tall Donald Trump is great to get a party started. Marquez said Batman, Disney’s Elsa and those little minions are usually the go-to pinatas for parties. This summer Trump has trumped the usual suspects.
“I think he’s a bad person because I don’t like the way he thinks about the Mexican people,” said Marquez.
But Marquez has designed a Trump of his own and business couldn’t be better.
“So I’m going to work overtime, I need to make 200 pinatas,” said Marquez.
Marquez estimates his crew will need to turn out 500 Trumps for this month. It takes about two hours to make just one. Marquez said they can make about 50 pinatas a day. But with a fast crew inside his 25 year-old pinata factory, Marquez is confident they’ll get the job done.
Folks can bash their very own Trump for $25 at the Marquez Bros retail store in Watsonville. Some customers didn’t want to leave snagging one at a store to chance. Jack Jacobson of Santa Cruz, came directly to where the little Trumps are made.
“I got here early because I expect a lot of them to be sold,” said Jacobson.
The hanging pinatas have yet to receive the famous comb over but Marquez said once you see the finished product it’s hard to not want to take a swing. The Marquez brothers appreciate the business but still haven’t changed their views of Trump.
“I think he’s the wrong person to be a President for this country,” said Marquez.
