Brian Miller testifies in alleged towing scheme trial

3 our top story tonight… a civilian believed to be involved in an alleged towing scheme along with king city police officers — took the stand today! good evening, i’m spencer washburn and i’m jasmine viel. the judge is trying to determine if there is enough evidence to take the case to trial. 3 news channel five’s cassandra arsenault was in court again today for the emotional testimony… cassy—when is court expected to let out for the day? 3 most of the day 3 today was spent with miller’s towing owner, brian miller, on the stand. he made it clear that there was a deal between him and sgt bobby carillo. 3 he said carillo would give him 20 cars to tow and in return he’d give carillo a car. but miller defended his brother saying acting chief bruce wasn’t involved and he only agreed to the deal because carillo, a “big guy with a gun and a badge”, intimdated him. 3 brian miller said he fell on hard times and the extra tows helped him pay the bills. he admitted on the stand that he made a mistake and he knows his chances of doing some jail time are real.when asked if the district attorney was cutting him a deal for less jail time. miller says he is not aware of any deal that’s being offered. but carrillo’s defense attorney had transcripts of his conversations with the da’s office about miller asking how he could help himself, and if they tell him what to say he’ll say it. they also brought up what they believe is preferential treament for brian miller’s arrest. miller said that he and his brother, the acting chief of king city’s police department, haven’t been close for the last five or ten years despite being fraternal twins and marrying sisters. brian testified today that he believes his brother had no idea what he and carillo were 3 doing. 3 the deliberations are still on going as we speak so i’ve been told that will be the case there’s another da’s investigator that will take the stand after brian bobby carillos lawyer has established that brian miller is 100,000 dollars in debt and desperate to stay out of jail during questioning. live in salinas, i’m cassandra arsenault, news channel five. 3
