Missing biker found dead in Hollister Hills

UPDATE 4:54 p.m.: San Benito County Sheriff’s Office deputies said motorcycle rider Doug Williams, 23, was out for a 20-minute ride Tuesday night when he never returned.

Hollister Hills staff and volunteers said a search effort was launched when he was reported missing around 4:30 p.m. and the sheriff’s office was called out about four hours later.

Deputies said it appeared Williams had been riding at a high speed and crashed into a tree along a trail, then crashed down an embankment.

UPDATE 10:55 a.m.: The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office said emergency crews are trying to recover the body of a motorcycle rider found dead in the Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area Wednesday morning.

Deputies said Gilroy resident Doug Williams, 23, went down an embankment with rocks and wooded terrain. Investigators said Williams was with a friend Tuesday night but they were taking turns riding on trails. They said Williams was alone at the time of the crash.

UPDATE 9:30 a.m.: A missing motorcycle rider has been found dead in the Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area Wednesday morning.

A State Parks officer for the San Andreas District and Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area said the search for Gilroy resident Doug Williams, 23, started Tuesday night around 6:30 p.m. after he was reported missing by family members who were also at Hollister Hills.

Officers said law enforcement with State Parks, California Highway Patrol, San Benito County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team, Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office searched for the biker.

Officers said a search using infrared technology on a CHP helicopter Tuesday night did not help locate Williams.

They said the rider was found dead around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, near the middle of the park in the Lower Ranch area.

A coroner is on scene and an accident investigation is happening now. State Parks officers said it has been a couple of years since something like this has happen.

PREVIOUS STORY: The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office said there’s a multi-agency search effort Wednesday morning for a missing motorcycle rider in the Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area.

A ranger station employee said it’s in the lower ranch area, consisting of about 3,600 acres of land.
