Salinas police arrest suspect on Kern Street

Salinas police said officers responded to a suspicious car at 190 Kern Street Wednesday morning.

Officers said the car had been stolen during a carjacking.

Once the car was located, officers said they surrounded the vehicle and arrested the driver Peter Vasquez, 31. They said he was taken in without incident.

Vasquez was taken to Monterey County Jail and charged with carjacking, possession of heroin for sale and a probation violation.

One person is currently in custody.

Officers were searching the area near and apartment complex at the end of Kern Street across from Holiday Inn Express.
