Brookdale’s historic post office catches on fire Friday morning, displaces people
BROOKDALE, Calif. (KION-TV) - Brookdale's historic post office was damaged by a fire early Friday morning. According to Boulder Creek Fire Department Fire Chief Mark Bingham, the fire started early Friday morning just after midnight.
Witnesses on the scene say the fire quickly spread through the second floor of the building where a residential space is located.
Fire officials add three people in the fire were transported to the hospital for treatment. Boulder Creek Fire was unable to comment on their condition Friday morning.
That fire shutting down Highway 9 at Pacific Street in both directions for hours overnight. Two dogs were also rescued from the fire as well.
CHP said southbound traffic was being allowed through just after 4 a.m. Friday morning, but the northbound closure remains in effect.
Multiple agencies responding to the fire, including Boulder Creek Fire, Zayante Fire, Ben Lomand Fire and Santa Cruz City Fire.
Fire officials add, the cause remains under investigation.
